BIRTH CHOICES AND YOUR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER

Gaining legal consent is a delicate balance of communication, information and support. We examine the how the consent process is conducted and your role as the decision maker.

Health professionals are trained to communicate however you might find that some struggle to maintain positive communication when a mother requests or declines intervention outside of the “usual routine”. It matters how you birth. Feel safe, informed and supported is essential. This section outlines your rights within the system and with your health providers. This section includes two case studies of women birthing within australia who’s care was deemed “outside of the norm”

RESEARCH | THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE BS

Become a research buff. Find, read and cite research and evidenced based information. This section also helps to choose the research that supports your choices.

HOW TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS FOR YOUR BIRTH

There is no RIGHT way to birth. How you birth should be your decision and you must be an active participant in planning. Whats right for you may not be for another mother. This course will not tell you how to birth but it will show you how to evaluate information and get the support you need.
